Thankful

I'm thankful for family (two and four legged), friends, and a swift and ball winder this Thanksgiving. Have a lovely day.

And then there's this

So, I finished the pieces of the grey sweater and thought vaguely about blocking them, and then looked at the back and the two fronts and thought--those all don't match.

The two fronts (it is a cardigan) are one length and the back is about two inches shorter.

Nice.

So technically, the back WAS two inches shorter. What I did was pick up stitches along the bind off at the top and then just knit two more inches. Not sure what this means for the actual construction, but we'll see. Stay tuned.

Gobble gobble!

The back of the shruggy thing

Not sure what else to say. This is a fun, fast knit and I love the yarn (Berroco Vintage Chunky) and it really doesn't look *that* chunky.

Skydive--with question marks

I saw this pattern on someone's blog--was it KathyB's?--and I thought it would be cool in a a color changing yarn. So I bought some--I think it is Lang?--and cast on for it last night. Being a lacey pattern on size 8s, it seems to be going very quickly. And I love watching the colors change.

You can see the ball in the background.

The shruggy thing

This is from the new IK--in the magazine it is being knit in yellow.

It uses a chunky yarn but doesn't feel ski lodge chunky. It is going quite fast, is fun to knit and the pattern is quick to memorize, and so I call it a winner!

Tiny mitten

I am enchanted with knitted Christmas decorations. At this time of year I get all excited about knitting a tree skirt or some other major project, and then I look at the date. Hello!

One thing I've seen in catalogues that I really love is a garland of knitted mittens. I figure if I knit a few this year and then more next year then I can get a nice garland for 2014. So:
Of course, this may go the way of hexipuffs but we'll see.

Comet and sleeves

In honor of the depressing grey foggy and drizzly weather we've been having, I'm finishing the grey sweater.

Well actually, as you know, there are two sweaters I want to start. I'm waiting for the yarn for the shrug so I'm trying to get the long grey sweater finished. Getting there! Then I'll have to start knitting some stuff with some color.

Comet looks so skinny in this picture, but rest assured she is a healthy pup!

Trippy

Not sure why these don't look the same size because they are--the EXACT same size! Oh well. Anyway, these circle mitts are a fast and fun knit--interesting construction and only two ends per mitt to weave in.

My one recommendation is to write down exactly what you do for one mitt so you can replicate it for the second. Ask me how I know this is what you should do.

Imagine That

Longtime readers of my blog know that I used to do reviews of new issues of IK and VK. I called these posts "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". For quite a while, though, I haven't done this since there has been little in either magazine that I consider good--defined as something I want to start knitting ASAP.

Well, guess what? The winter issue of IK has an entire SECTION of stuff I want to knit.
My two favorites are the swivel pullover (center of the first row) and the yellow shrug (first one of the second row). The yarn for the shrug is on sale today at The Dizzy Sheep so I snapped that up. I'll make the Swivel in a nice soft pink.

Of course, there is some not great stuff in this issue but I'm honestly quite thrilled with a decent IK! It helps that I love cables I guess!

Almost done

I would guess this sweater will be done before the end of the weekend. I have twelve rows left of Stockinette on the sleeve and then can do the cuff and then it will be done. I thought it would come together a bit more quickly but, oh well. I am kind of tired of it but looking at the picture I'm thinking "that looks pretty good."

I'm looking forward to doing some different things--namely hexipuffs and Christmas ornaments. And cowls and socks and mitts.

This will look better when it is blocked

But it is a fingerless mitt called the Circle Mitt.

It is a fun pattern from the Rav--a little complex but not really, and no seams and just two ends to weave in.

Dress up part 2

Friday night was the School of Journalism and Communications Hall of Achievement Banquet. I had nominated one of our ad grads, Sheena Brady, to the Hall and she was inducted that night. It is a nice dress up occasion that I like to attend every so often. I realized, though, that I've worn this outfit three times to the banquet. Oh well.

Luckily bling on a collar rarely goes out of style.

Dressing Up

Not a lot of knitting happening here since we had events on both Thursday and Friday nights. Thursday was Halloween and we went to a costume party. Friday was the J school's Hall of Achievement dinner, where one of my former students was inducted. I was so filled with pride that I had a tiny bit to do with her success. Anyway, here is Halloween:

I was a cat. :-)
