Sometimes I surprise myself

Leah commented that I really like blue. Whenever I look at my stash, I get a little amazed that I have such a limited color pallette: so much blue! A little red! A little purple and pink! But mostly blue!

If you would look in my closet, though, you'd see a sea of black bottoms, a bunch of black tops, some white shirts, and here and there some color in a hand knit. However, my sweater stash yarn is blue, grey, off white, black, and maybe tan to perk it all up.

So I was surprised when my former student Kati stopped by with this beautiful bouquet of flowers and I thought "those colors look great together! They would make a good yarn."

And then I remembered this yarn that had just arrived. This is Dashing Dachs and part of the Woolgirl sock yarn club. The yarn itself is great and the sock yarn package was filled with delights. When I saw the yarn my first reaction was 'ooh, I like that" and then the SENSIBLE Kim said "but those aren't 'my colors'."

But maybe, somewhere inside me, they are.

What are your colors?

I wear a lot of black. And my stash has a lot of blue - so I've been forcing myself to buy more colors in yarn and clothes!

I'm in the Woolgirl sock yarn club too and haven't decided what to do with this yarn since "those aren't my colors" either.

My stash is full of blue too :)

My sock stash is more muted, however, my sweater stash is a riot of color. Bright orange, red, green, tourquoise, golds, etc.

It's not a bad thing to have something you continually gravitate to, in this case a color/color family. Makes it easy for people to find something (such as your SIL) to choose something you will like. Every now and then, though, it is good to stretch and find something out of your comfort zone. That's me. I don't always realize it, but I gravitate toward the cool colors. This past year, I have made a conscious effort to choose things that outside of my color 'box.' Sometimes that has been good, but sometimes not. When I have a choice between something I will sometimes choose the one you would least predict I would choose because it is different. Not alwasy though.

I am like this in a restaurant. I do like to try new things, but if I find something I really like at a restaurant, that is what I want to order when I am there. Every now and then, I will find something else I like, but I end up going back to where I started.

Your Wool Girl yarn is a bright contrast to the blue, that's for sure. Finding the right pattern will be interesting. Possibly the Caterpillar Socks at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/caterpillar-sock or the Bellatrix at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bellatrix would be interesting.

It's nice to try new things, but good having your all time favorites too. Interesting too how your other clothes are similar to themselves, but don't gravitate to your yarn color of choice.
