Wanna Swap?

My pseudo twinny Kim is hosting a swap on her blog (click on her name and you'll find out the details). Looks like fun! Join and maybe you can swamp avec moi!

Plus, she is also opening a home for wayward Hexipuffs--collecting those you've done but have bailed on the thought of actually making a quilt with them. If you're interested in donating, either leave a comment here or email me at kbshee AT comcast DOT net and I'll hook you up with the twinster.

I can't show you what I'm knitting.

Do you like my rhymes?

It slowly grows

So here's the skirt. Right now it is way way short but it is looking pretty cute. The construction is somewhat ingenious, I must say.

Whirlwind

I got home last night at 9:30 pm from a whirlwind trip to Chicago--left Friday at 5:30 am. Did a two day meeting, slept a tiny bit, and caught up with some colleagues. But today I'm pretty brain dead.

This sweater has an official name but I'm not sure what it is. I unraveled a different project to get the yarn. But more on that later.

And the prizes keep on coming

My twinnie ran a contest on her blog called "The Knitters Hunk and Chick" and one of the people I nominated came in second place. And so I won a prize (awesome, right?)!

Included in the awesomeness is two skeins of Mountain colors (Love), enoguh pink cotton for a sweater, a project bag, soaps, stitch markers, those little crochet hooks you use to pick up dropped stitches, a needle sizer, a tape measure, and the Twinster's own tea blend. And really cute needles with bees. And hand stuff. And temporary tatoos. And probably other fun stuff that I'm missing.

Thanks Kim!

Skirting the Issue

IMG_1069 by kbshee

As mentioned in my previous post, I'm making a skirt. I find most knitted skirts hideous. However, after playing around on the Rav, I found a pattern that was in the December 2010 IK called the Isobel skirt by Cia Abbott Bullemer.

Did I mention that I HATE twee pattern names? I haven't for a while. But I do. And this is a pretty twee name. "Hi, do you like my skirt? Its name is Isobel." Please.

But anyway--this isn't the EXACT skirt since the pattern called for Manos silk dk yarn and this Eco Wool heavy worsted yarn but I'm making do. First I knit the waistband in a ribbing with some button loops at the end, and then picked up stitches around the waist. The ribbing is K1tbl, p2 and then the increases are done in the purls to eventually get up to K1tbl, p4. And it kind of looks like pleats but not really. Kind of ingenious, I must say, Ms. Bullemer.

Big Grey Cardigan

Tehe body is done. Now on to the sleeves. And major blocking will be required.

Can't remember what this is called--something about a bridge?

It is a cowl, it is cute, it is the last one I"m knitting for a while. I'm actually going to start on a skirt. GAH! A skirt!

ETA: Great Wall.

Our boys

A colleague sent me this jpeg of a poster he found. Love the way the yarn seems sort of alive!

This is called the 'Great Wall' cowl but I don't know why. It is made with a great blue that is Wowza from Miss Babs.

The next one is the grey one with bobbles and then on to socks for a bit.

Happy Labor Day

It is the so-called end of summer today, and I'm celebrating by, um, laboring.

Tim is working at the office in Corvallis today so we were up early. I decided to wash the slipcovers on the living room furniture and to vacuum in preparation for a trip to the coast this weekend, and that is always a bit of a time consuming experience (the details are so excruciatingly boring that I won't go there right now).

The knitting has been kind of pedestrian, although I do have some things I like on the needles. I think it is time to go back to socks and leave cowls behind (after I do one last cowl with the felted ball yarn in grey). I'll post some pictures soon.

So there you go.
