Oldie but goodie.

I finished this up probably last spring, but kind of ignored it til now.
It needed buttons, and a seam here or there, and I finally got around to ordering some snowflake buttons and getting this done. I like it! Although the blues are a bit odd--the dark one is sort of a weird green/blue that doesn't quite 'go' but I'll make it work.

Word verification

I've turned on word verification due to some odd comments in the comment section. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll turn it off once the odd commenter has gone away.

Willow Cowl

This is a quick knit.
It is now blocking, and is the same colorway as the Casseiopia (sp?) socks. But it looks fun in a cowl too.

Oof!

There has been quite a bit of merriment at our house, fueled by chocolate and beef tenderloin and the complete "Sopranos". Santa was very, very good to us (me especially) and we're truly enjoying the Holiday season.

These are on the needles and I"m zipping through them--String Theory socks. So cute!

Was your holiday great?

We find magic everywhere!

May the spirit of Christmas last all year long. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Can you say 'quick knit'?

I finished the Something Cowl:

Probably not the best match with a polka dot sweater, but maybe so.
It's very lightweight, and I love the three greys and black. I have a lot left over so will probably do another cowl with these colors too.

Plus you can see our Christmas tree and my holiday hair in the 'Rudolph's Nose' colorway.

Something Cowl

I have been working in bits on this: Something Cowl . I was going to do a shawl in five colors of black-white-grey but, um, didn't. So I'm doing this cowl and probably the hat that goes with it as well. Interesting construction that I think I'm screwing up.

Yep, doesn't look like much yet but stay tuned, hopefully I'm doing it right.

Yesterday I made a batch of cookies and fudge and finished up cards. Today I wrapped some gifts and put the bows on the dogs. Comet is hell bent on untying Pilot's bow. Not sure if that was a good move or not.

All I have left to prepare is to weave in ends on Tim's present, wrap Tim's stuff, and shop for Christmas eve dinner. We still have cookies to make and lights to put up, but both of those are in Tim's Christmas wheel house.

Regardless, Christmas will be here soon!

Oops

I totally forgot about the blue shrug until I was cleaning up the yarn room. Guess I'll get going on that again now too! Plus I started a new thing yesterday---and finished a sweater that had been sitting around since last Christmas.

So this happened

Yes, this was taken with the scarf in the shower. I just plunked it in a cool water bath, wrung it out, and hung it up and it seems to be drying quite nicely and blocking itself. Very cool.

So *that* means I get to cast on for something new. Yesterday, I did a huge clean on my desk at home--four trips out to the recycling and one to the garbage--and now it all looks good. Hopefully I can keep it that way. But anyway, I put all the patterns I had print out recently into a file (huge file) and now I'll go through that and see what I want to cast on.

I am working my way through the sort-of-not-time-sensitive stuff for work that has piled up (theses and dissertation proposals, letters of rec, and other stuff) and doing a bit each day. Also doing a bit of cleaning up each day--yesterday was office and bedroom, today I vacuumed the floors and am going to do a bit in the living room. And I still have cards, cookies and wrapping to do but I went to the grocery store today (that counts, right?) and have all cookie ingredients in the house. My share of the cards is no longer very big so it won't take that long (famous last words, right)? It just feels great to not have a gazillion emails to deal with every day. Deep breath out!

Merry and Bright

Grading is done (basically--there are three thesis/dissertation proposals in my inbox that I really don't need to read right away and I'm waiting for one last Honors thesis proposal to get in so I can give the person a "P" and then click the submit grades button) and the snow is (finally) melted and look at the fun socks I've been working on.

The yarn is string theory colorworks, the colorway is Cassiopiea, and yes, there are little polka dots in the black stripe! So cute!

Update on life in the icey north

Warning: this post will contain virtually no knitting content. Back to the wool soon!

We have lived in Eugene for 15 years, and I've been able to count the times it has snowed on one hand. In general, when these rare events happen, it snows at night or early in the morning, people freak out, the sun comes out, and the snow is melted by 3:30.

Well, not this time.

It started snowing last Friday in the early morning--by the end of the day on Friday we had 8 inches. That is a lot for a town that has (apparently) a total of six snow plows and bans rock salt. Campus closed at 2pm, and I had stocked up on a few essentials on Thursday so we would not starve.  The snow stopped around 3 or 4. Amazingly, the postman came by as did UPS. Friday was our garbage collection day, and we got a 'robo call' saying they would pick up the next day.

Then came the deep freeze--I think it got down below 0 Friday or Saturday night. We stayed home on Saturday although people were getting out of our street. The sun came out but it didn't get much about 10. Sunday, it was sunny and a bit warmer, and we ventured out---mostly because Tim was flying out Monday morning and we wanted to make sure we could get there. The streets were all snow covered, still, but it was fine getting around with 4wd.

We left Monday morning at about 6:15 to get Tim to the airport, and the hardest part was driving in the dark with the snow covering the lane markers. It barely got above 20 on Monday. Tuesday it was in the high 20s, and finally yesterday we got above freezing at about noon. The melting began--and then froze last night.

Luckily, the trip Monday morning has made me comfortable enough to drive around (cautiously) and I've watched the main streets melt off throughout the week. In a typical situation I'd probably be afraid to do that, but I'm good with it.

Today it is supposed to get up in the high 30s with rain which will either wash this all away or make a real horror show for later today and tomorrow. I've been sequestered grading today and have no plans to venture out except to add more garbage to the trash which has STILL NOT BEEN PICKED UP. Argh.

I have been knitting---but it is Tim's Christmas gift which is almost done. So no pics, sorry. Soon!

Snowbound

Not really--just saw our next door neighbor drive off without any problems, so if we had to go out we could but there's no reason to go out today. Tim has some work to finish up, and I don't have anywhere I need to go, and we have food to last us til tomorrow, so we'll be staying in and enjoying the 8" of snow and the cold cold temperatures.

I had a very focused grading sesison yesterday (and the day before) and have all grading received completed. The rest of the papers (maybe 1/4 of my total grading pages) are due in Thursday by 10, but I'm certain they'll start trickling in tomorrow night. So I'm in good shape with my grading.

I had posted the hat picture but I also knit up some baby moccassins to go with the hat--and here they are. Cute!

Today I'll do some snow management (clear off the 4WD car in preparation for going out tomorrow), do another shovel of the driveway, and then we'll put those styrofoam thingees around the faucets since we are supposed to go down to the single digits tonight. And then knit and read. And maybe teach myself how to Tunisian Crochet. Stay tuned!

1. I have approximately 600 pages of student work to grade over the next two weeks.
2. Plus one Master's defense.
3. I currently have about 20 pages on hand. I should get about 2/3 tomorrow.
4. Except, of course, for the multiple extensions that are being requested.
5. At least I have a pretty scarf.

Baby hat

A colleague of Tim's is having a baby, and I offered to knit up a few things for the shower (the baby in question is a boy). This came together in a few hours using two colors of Worsted weight. Today I'm attempting--for the first time--baby moccasins. Stay tuned!
