Thursdays bits and bobs

  • It was a pretty quiet 4th here during the day. The firecrackers started around 4pm and went til 11, off and on. Pilot was anxious but not trembling, so that's a win.
  • Tim made duck breasts (first time!) for dinner, and I made a blueberry cobbler from Jane Brody's Good Food book (here's the basic recipe, although I increase everything by 50% and it works too).
  • I finished "Social Creature" by Tara Isabel Burton and this book is VERY well written but pretty disturbing. It is compared to works by Patricia Highsmith so if you like her, you'll probably like this book. I liked it a LOT (it took a bit to pull me in, but once I was in I was completely in) but it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
  • We planned to watch "Black Panther" last night but got about halfway through and were done. It was fun to watch, but between fireworks and lots of dishes and getting late that we just thought we didn't need to see the whole thing.
  • I spent most of the afternoon working on "Close to You" with my swap yarn from Cindy and it continues to look amazing:

It took me forever to get to sleep - fireworks exploded until well after midnight. Sigh!

The shawl is progressing nicely.

How nice to see how the yarn works up! Always a pleasant surprise.

Gorgeous Shawl! It was too humid and hot for open windows on the 4th. So the fireworks sounded muffled and we had a fan on for noise. Last night, windows open....and either I was so tired I slept through it or the fox, coyote and raccoons were quiet!

Sounds nice. We had our families for a cookout, only my dad ended up in the ER, so it was just Keith's parents. That meant lots of leftovers. Madison has its fireworks a week before the 4th, so it was nice and quiet!

That shawl is a fun pattern, isn't it? Yours is looking great!
