Warning, no knitting

It's been a highly emotional few days, as colleagues have done some amazing things to mark my retirement.

Thursday afternoon, my colleague Deborah organized a Zoom with all three cohorts of our Masters students and our advisory board. Much much crying.

Friday afternoon, my colleague Chris organized a Zoom with many of my PhD advisees (most of the good ones). It was so amazing to be gathered together. Not as much crying because I am bound to these wonderful people forever.

Friday afternoon, the my department had an in person, outdoor gathering to celebrate my retirement but also the retirement of my colleague Dave and our former Dean Tim. Amazingly, my good friend (and friend of the school) Steve flew up from LA (to Portland), took a van from Portland to Eugene (four hours), came to the gathering, and then got back on the van to Portland, where he had an early morning flight today. We did get to have a good catch up while he waited for the van, and it was so amazing he was there.

There were speeches and lovely gifts including a bottle of wine, an engraved barometer, and these:

So I guess there is a little knitting in this.

It's not easy to transition to a new stage of life, even when you initiate it. Be kind to yourself. Hugs.
